The “Electronic Onion” a popular off-beat periodical satirising the information security industry has launched its own website. The move was in response to popular demand to make the newsletter more accessible to the public.
The eOnion published monthly by Orthus Ltd. was formerly a subscription based newsletter comprised of odd and humorous articles about the information security market. The not-for profit eOnion started publication in July 2001 and quickly built a readership of over 10,000 IT Security Professionals around the world. The publication includes editorials, opinion articles on information security technology and events as well as quizzes and quotes from industry leaders.
“It really took off”, says Orthus Managing Director Richard Hollis. “The eOnion became extremely popular very quickly with hands-on security engineers who thought that the product-led industry maybe took itself a little too seriously. It’s picked up a cult following and I think it fills a hole in the media. We get complaints when it’s late and have been inundated with requests to set it up on its own site for easier and broader access. The site should make it easier to recommend it to friends and colleagues and hopefully please our readers” said Hollis.
